My role as the district social worker is to provide a bridge between home and school. I assist families in finding a number of community resources, including: healthcare, counseling, clothing, and other resources. I also intervene in crisis situations and reporting child abuse and neglect. I work individually and in groups with students and their families. I work with school aged parents to find resources and offer support so that they can complete their education.

I developed a Peer Mentor program at the high school level in 2005. 10th and 11th grade students are chosen by teacher referrals and participate in ongoing training and work with younger students throughout the district on academic and social skills.

I am also the district Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) coordinator. I develop programs to prevent drug and alcohol use among our students and also refer to treatment providers when students have been found to be using alcohol or drugs.

I speak Spanish and work closely with our Latino students and families in order to promote diversity and inclusion in our district.
