WUSD Highlights Academic Gains Led by
Director of Teaching and Learning

WHITEWATER, WI — The Whitewater Unified School District is recognizing the Director of Teaching and Learning Dr. Terilyn Robles for her significant contributions to the district’s academic advancements and improved student outcomes.

Dr. Robles recently coordinated a district site visit with seven other school districts to demonstrate WUSD’s “Whippet Way” in action. This visit, hosted in collaboration with Company Collaborative, showcased how the district’s commitment to authentic, student-centered learning fosters innovation and community.

Company Collaborative has partnered with WUSD to implement a curriculum that supports continuous learning, empowering educators with cutting-edge teaching practices that resonate with students.

“Under Dr. Robles’ guidance, the district has made considerable strides by targeting strategic priorities to drive educational success,” said Dr. Caroline Pate-Hefty, WUSD Superintendent. “After recognizing opportunities for improvement, our Principals and administrators pulled together and began planning and prioritizing professional learning and implementing programs and curricula to drive measurable improvements in student outcomes. We are so fortunate to have Dr. Robles’ expertise and guidance and look forward to continuing on this path of improvement.”

Since implementing these initiatives in 2022, WUSD has seen remarkable results. This includes a 14.7% increase in elementary FORWARD test scores for math, with scores rising from 35% to 49.7% and literacy scores now reaching 42% at or above proficiency. Significant improvements in ACCESS test scores for language acquisition also demonstrate the impact of inclusive instruction and targeted language interventions.

There was a 5.9% improvement in FORWARD ELA scores and a 14.7% increase in math scores for grades 6-8 from 2023 to 2024.

Beyond academics, these advancements have positively impacted staff morale, student attendance, and Whitewater High School’s graduation rates. Dr. Robles’ philosophy of student-centered constructivism drives her belief that each student brings unique experiences and perspectives that enrich the learning environment.
