Whitewater Unified School District Celebrates Improvements on State School Report Cards

WHITEWATER, WI — The Whitewater Unified School District (WUSD) is pleased to share its 2024 results from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) State Report Cards, highlighting achievements and pointing to areas for continued growth.

The DPI report cards provide data through accountability scores, ratings, and a five-star system to drive district and building instructional decisions in four priority areas: Achievement, Growth, Target Group Outcomes, and On-Track to Graduation.

WUSD made notable gains this year, with several schools demonstrating significant improvements. Lincoln Elementary increased 4.4 points this year and Whitewater High School also advanced, with a 5.5-point increase from its previous score. Notably, Lakeview Elementary moved into the "Exceeds Expectations" category, receiving a four-star rating and achieving an impressive 11-point increase since last year. Now both Lakeview Elementary and Washington Elementary rank as “Exceeds Expectations.”

While acknowledging the need for targeted support at Whitewater Middle School, which experienced a decline of approximately three points and moved to a two-star rating. The district is anticipating results on future report cards to show significant improvements following the recent implementation of structured literacy and intervention strategies.

“This year’s report card results highlight the hard work and perseverance of our students and staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Caroline Pate-Hefty. “From Lincoln’s steady progress to the exceptional gains at Lakeview Elementary and our High School, we are incredibly proud of the strides we are making as a district. At the same time, we recognize opportunities for growth and remain committed to supporting our schools with the resources, training, and focus they need to succeed. We encourage the community and district families to engage with us as we plan and strategize pathways forward to achieve the results all our students deserve.”

The DPI’s state accountability system uses a multi-measure index, a valuable tool for ensuring transparency and accountability. These ratings provide an overview of school and district performance, guiding efforts to channel resources and support where they can drive the most positive impact.
