Whitewater Hosts Inaugural FIRST Lego League Regional Event, Celebrating Robotics and Innovation

WHITEWATER, WI — Whitewater High School hosted its inaugural FIRST Lego League (FLL) Challenge Regional Event on Sunday, December 8.

The event showcased the ingenuity and hard work of 4th-8th grade robotics teams from Whitewater and 19 teams from across Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington, Dane, and Rock counties as they competed in challenges designed to test their critical thinking, coding, and design skills.

Throughout the day, teams demonstrated their problem-solving abilities as their LEGO Spike Prime robots tackled up to 15 complex missions on an ocean-themed tabletop field. Pit areas were open for viewers to watch as teams presented Innovation Projects and provided demonstrations to aspiring future roboticists.

“We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication that went into hosting this event, from our students and their mentors to the volunteers who made everything possible,” said Laura Masbruch, WHS Robotics Advisor. “The turnout was fabulous, and seeing so many students showcase their skills, creativity, and teamwork made all the effort worth it.”

The event culminated with an awards ceremony celebrating achievements in robot performance, innovation, core values, and overall success. The top eight teams earned their place at the FLL Sectional Event in Waukesha on December 21.

WHS robotics team members, alumni, parents, and mentors worked alongside WUSD Robotics Booster Club members, Ferradermis sponsors, and volunteers from southeast Wisconsin to ensure the event ran smoothly.
