The Whippet Girls’ Swim Team traveled to Jefferson to compete in the EagleJay Invite on Saturday, September 28. The girls certainly showed up and entertained; they went 17 of 20 best times, captured two medals, and broke a school record!
Makayla Bazeley had a phenomenal day in the water going 4/4 best times. She started the day with an event win in the 200 Freestyle going a time of 2:00.06. In the 200 Freestyle Relay she led off with a 25.84 and in the 400 Freestyle Relay anchored with a time of 56.17. Makayla also had a sensational swim in the 100 Backstroke. She won the event by over 10 seconds with a time of 59.64. With that time Makayla is now the new SCHOOL RECORD HOLDER in the 100 Backstroke. Congrats, Makayla!
Charlotte Hajewski continues to improve on her time in the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. She had an 8th place finish in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:22.83, which is a lifetime best! In the 500 Freestyle she finished 12th overall and went a best time of 6:25.76.
In the 50 Freestyle we had a handful of swimmers go best times including Caitlin Alford (40.87), Lucy Davis (32.71), Emerson Dunham (29.74), Maya Davis (37.39), and Maggie Maas (29.62). We are excited to see them all swimming so fast!
Georgia Esch was the lone Whippet swimmer in the 100 Butterfly; she continues to get better and faster at her race every week!
In the 100 Freestyle, we saw some really great time drops including Caitlin Alford going a 1:37.99 (4 second drop), Laken DePorter going a 1:25.66 (3 second drop), Zoe Zei going a 1:32.32 (2 second drop), and Maggie Mass going a 1:05.22 (1 second drop)!
Emerson Dunham and Lucy Davis both swam a really strong 500 Freestyle race. Emerson Dunham swam a great race finishing 7th overall and dropped nearly 12 seconds going a time of 6:05.90. Lucy Davis also had a great time drop of over 8 seconds with a time of 6:59.94.
Maya Davis was the lone Whippet Swimmer in the 100 Breaststroke. Maya week after week continues to improve her stroke technique, and its really paying off when it comes to race day. She dropped nearly 3 seconds and is now under the 1:40 mark with a time of 1:39.72
It was a great day of racing! We can’t wait to watch them compete again at their next dual meet. The Whippets are coming back to Jefferson on Tuesday, October 1. The meet starts at 5:30pm, and we hope to see you there!
